NEMT billing software
Billing software for NEMT (non-emergency medical transportation) turns your drivers' finished rides into bills that brokers, Medicaid, insurance companies and riders pay. We compared 16 programs on what they say they can bill and what they charge.
Words used here

- Fleet

- A bill that asks a broker, a clinic or a rider for payment.

- Matching each trip with a driver and a vehicle.
- CMS-1500 and 837P
- The paper claim form and the electronic claim file that medical bills use.

- Demo and quote
- A quote is the price a company works out for you once you ask for it. In a demo, someone walks you through the program for free.
Find three platforms that match your fleet
Tell us three things: how you get paid, how many vehicles you run and which broker sends most of your trips. You'll get three program suggestions. Then one short form lets you ask all three for a free demo.
Find my three platformsWhat does NEMT billing software do?
Billing software begins with the trips your drivers finish. Bambi, for instance, turns trip records into invoices laid out to match each broker. Tobi Cloud allows one invoice per trip, or a single invoice for all the trips in a day, week or month.
With some programs, claims go to the broker for you. Others build the invoice or the claim file, and sending it is up to you. Several can bill riders, clinics and care homes as well.
How does each payer get its claims?
Most brokers run their own claims systems. MediRoutes reviews each claim for mistakes, then sends it right to the broker's system. DriveBoss does this too, and it can print filled-out forms for brokers that still want paper.
You will see two kinds of claim a lot. Medical bills use the 837P, an electronic claim file. Duet NEMT can fill in the CMS-1500, the paper claim form, from your trip records.
A clearinghouse is a company that checks claims and hands them to the payer. Some programs send the 837P file through one. AngelTrack and RouteGenie both work this way. With NEMT Cloud Dispatch you can use a clearinghouse or send claims right to the broker.
In many programs, riders who cover their own cost can pay online by card. ZeitRide and AngelTrack both work with Stripe. Riders using NEMT Cloud Dispatch can pick Stripe, Authorize.net or PayPal. These three services are all well-known ways to take card payments online.
Are NEMT billing services the same thing as billing software?
No. With software you get the tools, but the billing is still done by your own staff. A billing service means an outside company handles the billing work for you. Tobi Cloud works with Kinetik and Transit Billing, two billing programs made by other companies. That link by itself doesn't mean someone else handles your billing.
What does each platform claim to handle?
We name, for every billing job, the programs that mention it on their own websites. A program left off a line may still handle the job, so it's worth asking.
Duet NEMT can fill in CMS-1500 forms for you; sending them to each payer is your job. TripMaster says it bills Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance companies directly.
- RouteGenie, RoutingBox, AngelTrack, NEMT Platform and NEMT Cloud Dispatch say they send electronic 837P claims.
- Five programs say they fill in paper CMS-1500 forms: RouteGenie, NEMT Platform, NEMT Cloud Dispatch, Duet NEMT and AngelTrack.
- For broker invoices, most programs say they create them. AngelTrack, Traumasoft, NovusMED and Tobi Cloud don't mention it.
- Riders paying for themselves: most programs say they take those payments. Tobi Cloud, Traumasoft and TripMaster don't mention it.
How much does NEMT billing software cost?
Most programs that list a price charge a set monthly amount per vehicle. With Bambi and ZeitRide you only pay for vehicles that actually give rides, so a van parked all month doesn't cost you anything. Some prices are just a starting point, and extras like linking to a broker's system can add more, so get the full price in writing. To learn what a program would cost for your own vehicles and trips, try our price tool.
MediRoutes works differently and charges by the trip. Each month you pay a set fee, and every one-way trip (one ride, like home to the clinic) adds a small charge. Your cost goes up as your trip count goes up. Eight programs, including AngelTrack and NovusMED, do not show a price for a fleet like yours. You can ask each of them for one.
One system for dispatch and billing
Some programs build bills right out of the trips assigned to your drivers. Traumasoft connects billing and dispatch, and Bambi passes completed trips on to the broker's website for payment.
If one broker gives you most of your rides, make sure the program names that broker. On its website, RouteGenie lists 29 brokers, MediRoutes 14 and Bambi 13. QRyde, NovusMED and Traumasoft don't name any.
Questions people ask often
What's the best NEMT software?
There is no one best program. It comes down to how many vehicles you have, which broker gives you work and whether you do your own Medicaid or insurance billing. You answer those three questions and the finder recommends three programs. A company can't pay to be suggested.
Does free NEMT billing software exist?
Will I be tied to a long contract?
You can pay month by month with most programs, such as AngelTrack, Bambi and RouteGenie. DriveBoss bills monthly as well, but to cancel you must give notice in writing 30 days ahead. You can also pay DriveBoss for a whole year in advance and save $10 per vehicle.
Are there extra fees beyond the monthly price?
In some cases, yes. Once you link two or more brokers, MediRoutes charges $100 more a month. Paying its bill by card adds 3.5 cents to every dollar. NEMT Platform takes 3.2 cents of every dollar paid by card. TripMaster also has a one-time training fee when you start.
